Urging the Union Government to implement the recommendations of Kamalesh Chandra Committee and also regularize the job of Gram Dak Sevaks (GDS), members of various postal associations continued their strike for the second consecutive day here on Wednesday.
Members of All India Gramin Dak Sevaks Union, National Union of Gramin Dak Sevaks and National Federation of Postal Employees said that there are 5.5 lakh postal employees in the country of which 2.75 lakh employees are Gramin Dak Sevak working for a meagre salary in rural post offices.
They said that their salary revision was pending with the government for two-and-half years affecting them. They wanted the implementation of the committee report and also the verification of the membership with associations to be completed soon.
They said that by implementing the recommendations, the salary of postal employees and GDS will get hike as they were involved in all kinds of postal activities like delivery, selling stamps, collecting money for various deposit and insurance schemes. Urging the government to fulfil their demands, they began their indefinite strike from Tuesday.
