On Saturday, none turned to file nomination for the election to the Coimbatore Mayorship before the Corporation Commissioner S. Ganesh, the Returning Officer.

According to sources, the Corporation received 1,380 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and as many ballot control units.

The civic body’s requirement was 1,226.

The day also saw a team of Corporation officials led by Mr. Ganesh inspecting the counting centre at the Government College of Technology and the strong rooms at the North Coimbatore school where the ballot units had been stored.

Sources said that the civic body staff had begun removing hoardings, advertisements and wall paintings.

The work would continue throughout the week.

Nomination

Meanwhile, the Corporation said in a release that any person willing to contest the election could file the nomination or anybody proposing him or her could file the nomination on the contestant’s behalf.

But they would have to do so in person before the Returning Officer.

Both the contestant and his or her proposer had to sign the nomination papers.

A person could at the maximum file four nominations.

And only five people should be present at the time of filing the nomination papers.
