Reporting of property related crimes had gone down by 16 per cent in 2013 when compared to 2012 and the recovery rate has improved to 84 per cent in 2013 from the 76 per cent of 2012, said City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Tuesday.
He said that there were 774 cases in 2012 while number of cases reported in 2013 had been 649, recording a 16 per cent fall. He added that the number of murders in 2012 was 27 while it had gone down to 23 in 2013. City Police in 2012 had detected 607 of the 774 cases such as murder for gain, dacoity, robbery, snatching, burglary and theft while in 2013, as many as 530 of the 649 cases had been detected.
This helped in improving the percentage of recovery from 78 per cent to 82 per cent. Value of property lost was Rs. 4.32 crore in 2012 and recovery was Rs. 3.29 crore.
In 2013, the value of property lost was Rs. 6.97 crore and recovery was Rs. 5.83 crore.
