Welcoming the registering of an FIR against the Indian Coast Guard for their alleged attack on fishermen from Rameswaram, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss has sought action against the attackers and wanted steps to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Addressing media persons after inaugurating the 1st International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2017 here on Thursday, he said, “So far, our fishermen were attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy. But now our own officials have attacked our fishermen — this is unacceptable. He welcomed the registering of a case by the Coastal Security Group. He said that the State government could not bring a solution to this issue as they were not in a position to do.

When asked about Governor Banwarilal Purohit meeting government officials in Coimbatore, Mr. Anbumani said that if the Governor had received complaints against any Ministers or Chief Minister, he had the right to conduct inquiry. But interfering in the day-to-day affairs of the State government was not acceptable and not good for democracy.

He questioned the status of various cases, including three containers with ₹570 crore seized near Tirupur, Income Tax raids over distribution of ₹ 89 crore to voters in R.K. Nagar, raids at the Health Minister’s house, and raids at the house and office of former chief Secretary Ram Mohan Rao. “The results of these raids are unknown and the I-T department should come out with a statement on the recent raids,” he said.
