Petition against transmission lines

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:23 am IST - Tirupur:

Members of Aam Aadmi Party and Lok Satta Party petitioned Revenue Divisional Officer and other revenue officials against the erection of tower to carry power transmission cables at River Nallar area in the city.

They also complained of indiscriminate discharge of dyeing effluents into the same river.

S. Sundarapandian, district convener of AAP, said the power transmission towers were coming up right on the water body which is a clear case of encroachment by Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation. “Already, pits have been dug on the watercourse area. Despite protests from people, the officials are going ahead with the works,” he said. Digging of pits in such a manner and erecting towers could affect the smooth flow of the water, the activists pointed out. On the continuing effluent discharge into River Nallar at Angeripalayam, the AAP and the Lok Satta Party members pointed their accusations against the lethargy of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officials.
