Tense moments prevailed in front of a private matriculation school on Ukkadam – Sungam bypass road near the rail overbridge on Thursday when parents picketed the school alleging that it charged excess fee.
Similarly, a fortnight ago, parents protested in front of the school accusing it of not following the fee structure fixed by the committee appointed by the State Government. The school authorities promised to resolve the issue after which the protest was withdrawn.
On Thursday, the parents alleged that the school authorities were exerting pressure on the students to pay the fee fixed by the school.
They also alleged that a section of the students were told that they would not be allowed to attend the classes, if the fee was not paid on time.
With no solution in sight, the parents again resorted to picketing the school.
At some point in time, when the agitation was about to spill over to the road, the police, revenue and education officials intervened and assured the parents to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Following the assurance, the picketing agitation was withdrawn.
Traffic on the stretch was disrupted for a brief while as a result of the protest.
