The Mega Lok Adalat that was held on the district Sessions Court complex on Saturday saw the disposal of over 250 cases. According to sources, a good number of cases that were pending for quite some time were taken up on the day in seven court halls for quick disposal.
As many as 237 motor claims original petition cases were taken up on the day and claims worth Rs. 5.01 crore were disbursed on the day. Likewise, 17 cases related to labour matters were taken up on the day. The disbursement of the cases saw award of compensation worth Rs. 8.10 lakh. At the Adalat, 14 civil cases were taken up and their disbursement saw disbursement of Rs. 21.82 lakh. Also three cheque cases were taken up. Including the 1.21 lakh awarded in the cheque-related cases, the total compensation awarded stood at a little over Rs. 5 crore.
The sources said that the District Legal Services Authority conducted the Mega Lok Adalat as per the guidance of the Principal District Judge N. Authinathan and under the supervision of the Additional District Judge N. Seshasayee.
The last time the court conducted a Mega Lok Adalat was in December 2012.
