More than 2,000 police personnel have been deployed across Udhagamandalam for traffic control and other policing duties during the duration of the 121st Ooty Flower Show.

Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha said that over 1,000 police personnel would be on duty in and around the Government Botanical Garden from Friday when Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami is to inaugurate it.

All vehicles ascending towards Udhagamandalam have been directed to use the Mettupalayam-Coonoor-Ooty Road, while those descending towards the plains have been directed to proceed via Kotagiri. The diversion of the traffic will begin from Friday onwards and will be in place throughout the weekend, when it is expected that more than 2 lakh tourists would visit the town.

The district police have also directed all heavy vehicles to stop outside the town during peak hours, while hundreds of circuit buses are to be used to help carry tourists from one location to another within the town.

Traffic and lack of parking spaces remain one of the main areas of concern for the district police, with traffic slowing to a crawl across the town from Thursday morning itself. The district police have been stopping drivers parking illegally by the side of the road and have streamlined traffic flow to a certain extent.
