Officials of Coimbatore Local Planning Authority and Regional Office of Town and Country Planning have inspected 21 multi-storeyed buildings in the LPA area for violations or deviations from the approved plan.

An official of the LPA told The Hindu on Wednesday that after the collapse of a multi-storeyed building in Chennai recently, the State Government had said that buildings that were given approval since 2011 need to be verified.

Hence, the LPA had identified for inspection 28 buildings here that were given plan approval during the last three years. Now, the Directorate of Town and Country Planning has added another 18 buildings to the list. During the last few days, 21 buildings have been inspected by seven teams.

They will submit the report soon and these will be sent to the State Government by July 15.

The buildings that are inspected include commercial and residential structures that have been constructed or are under construction.

The official said the reports of the inspection were yet to be finalised and hence, there are no details on the violations or deviations in the buildings inspected so far.
