It was an embarrassing situation for Nallasivam, a farmer hailing from Vadukapalayam panchayat, when he received the smart family card through his ration shop.

He found the photograph of ‘Lord Ganesha’ in the space designated for affixing the picture of the family head.

It should be noted that a few days back, another such gaffe was noticed at Omalur in Salem district where a ration card holder got the card with the photograph of actor Kajal Aggarwal.

When contacted, District Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Officer P. K. Periyathambi, told The Hindu that the mistake happened in the case of the Vadukapalayam resident was rectified and a fresh card was issued.

Some officials involved in the public distribution system attributed the mistake to possible few causes.

“It could have happened either while directly uploading the picture through smart card App by the beneficiary himself or because of the error occurred in the cases where the details for the smart card where taken from those Aadhaar card which were issued in the earlier times when photos were not clear or blank.

“ In such cases, some photograph could have been accidentally got affixed while printing as the space could not go blank. However, we cannot pinpoint the reasons to a particular aspect”, said officials.

The officials added that any error occurred would be corrected immediately after it was brought to the notice of the authorities.
