MSME told to gain expertise in e-tendering

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) here have been advised to gain expertise in e-tendering while participating in e-tenders floated by Central Public Sector Units (CPSUs).

Executive Director, SME and Conveyor/Mines, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), N. Ilamparuthi, said this at the inaugural of the MSME Expo 2014 – National Vendor Development Programme here on Thursday. The event was jointly organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association and MSME Development Institute, Coimbatore branch.

He said that with a view to ensure transparency, CPSUs adopt e-procurement.

Mr. Ilamparuthi said that the order to CPSUs to purchase 20 per cent of their requirements from MSMEs would become mandatory from April 1, 2015, and that from April 2016 penalty would be levied for non-compliance. Mr. Ilamparuthi said that NLC was procuring around Rs. seven crore worth castings annually and added that despite Coimbatore being an engineering hub, there was no suppliers to the corporation form this city. R. Panneerselvam, Principal Director, MSME-Technology Development Centre, Agra, said the institution that focused on promoting and supporting foundrieswould shortly open a centre in Coimbatore at an outlay of about Rs. four crore.
