Marathon to eradicate a menace

M. Samydass, Special Sub Inspector, SIT, Coimbatore, ran through Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Salem, Erode and Tirupur

To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on July 26, and create awareness on this subject, M. Samydass, Special Sub Inspector, SIT, Coimbatore, took out a 520 kilometre-long marathon from Chennai to Coimbatore.

While he began at Chennai on June 26, he reached Coimbatore on Thursday where he was received A.K. Viswanathan, City Police Commissioner, and other members of the Friends of Police and Anticorruption Movement.

Speaking to reporters, he said that he ran around four to five hours per day with the distance covered per day ranging from 10 km to 41 km.

He was escorted by two police vehicles where the food was also prepared for him along the way.

The 57-year-old, who has just under a year to retire, went to Kancheepuram, and then proceeded to Villupuram, Salem, Erode and finally reached Coimbatore via Tirupur.
