Man robbed of Rs. 11 lakh

Four unidentified persons reportedly waylaid a goods carrier on Sunday, attacked its driver who was returning to Gudalur, and took away Rs. 11 lakh he was carrying.

K. Baskar (69) of Gudalur, in his complaint, said that he was forcibly taken in a car, and left him at Avinashi in Tirupur district, after taking away the money.

He used to transport pepper from Gudalur. Usually buyers deposit money in bank.

On Saturday, he took the load to Theni, and the buyer could not deposit the money in bank, and instead, it was handed over to Baskar.

When he reached Pogalur a luxury car blocked his van. Four persons dragged him to the car, and took away the money.

He was later abandoned at at Attayampalayam Pirivu.

He managed to reach the Avinashi Police Station, and was directed to Annur Police Station.

Case

A case has been registered under sections 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.

Three special teams were formed to probe the case.
