The Peelamedu Police arrested Santhosh Kumar (30) of Shoba Nagar near Avarampalayam in the city on Friday for allegedly murdering his wife Umamaheshwari (29) the previous night. The police said that the victim worked as teacher in a private school.

After conducting preliminary inquiries the police said that Santhosh Kumar was not regular to work and that he was an alcoholic. “It is learnt that he frequently picked up quarrels with his wife and tortured her. She used to leave her children at the house of her husband’s parents in the evening so that they would not know about the issues at home,” the police said.

The Police added that the accused was drunk when he picked up a quarrel with her and stabbed her with a knife. She was found dead amidst a pool of blood on Friday morning. Her body was recovered and sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The police arrested the accused and were conducting an inquiry into the incident.
