Man gets life sentence

The District Mahila Court on Monday sentenced a daily wager to life imprisonment for murdering his wife.

The police said that Rajendran stabbed Kasthuri suspecting her fidelity on November 12, 2013.

The judge G. Raja also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on Rajendran.

Star tortoises rescued

Two start tortoises were rescued from an aquarium at Papanaickenpalayam on Monday and a fine of Rs. 25,000 was imposed on the man who owned the shop.

Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) for Coimbatore Range S. Prabha said that the tortoises were priced at Rs. 1,500 a piece and that the owner of the aquarium was not aware that it would come under the Wildlife Protection Act.
