Aliyar Police have arrested T. Senthil (32) of Arthanaripalayam, near Aliyar, on Saturday for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 38-year-old woman of the same village.

The police said that the victim K. Chinna Papa alias Chellammal (38) was a daily wager. She was married to Kuppusamy and they got separated 18 years ago. Senthil was her relative and the two had an extramarital relationship. The man was married and has a 10-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.

In the early hours of Saturday, Senthil and Chellammal were talking near a well in the farmland owned by Sathish Kumar. She called her brother Chinna Raman (30) over phone and told that Senthil tried to push her into the well. Chinna Raman asked his elder brother Maniyan (32) about it and the latter went to the place, but could not find her. Villagers retrieved her body from the well in the afternoon. Senthil was arrested and remanded.

Persons feeling suicidal can call NGO Sneha in its helpline number 044-24640050 to get over such momentary extreme decisions.
