Water conservation and environmental protection should begin at home. One should not expect the government and local bodies to do everything for environmental conservation. “People should take the responsibility and can do a lot,” Managing Trustee of Siruthuli Vanitha Mohan has said.
Participating at an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Erode Zone and Young Indians, Erode Chapter here on Wednesday, she said every little effort taken to conserve water at homes would help bring in massive changes in society. “People should realise that they should leave the planet in a better shape for the future generation. Our next generation should have access to clean air and water. Let us start putting in more efforts to protect the Mother Nature before it is too late,” she told the participants.
Efforts such as harvesting rainwater, plugging leaks in the pipes and recycling the water should be carried out at every household. “We should try to save every little drop we can at our home,” she stressed and urged the students to spread awareness among people about water conservation.
Ms. Vanitha Mohan also appealed to the student community to start working together to protect the water bodies and channels from pollution. “Water bodies and channels are our community assets. We cannot let the industrial units to pollute them,” she said.
She urged the people in Erode to come together to form a movement similar to Siruthuli and start working on water conservation and to prevent environmental degradation. Siruthuli had taken a number of initiatives to revive the water bodies in Coimbatore and spread awareness among people on environment protection, she pointed out.
