He was speaking at the felicitation function organised on Saturday by the Erode Bar Association for advocates E.V. Viswanathan, Ma. Subramaniyan, K.Vallabhdas and V.K. Muthusamy.

Justice Sathasivam said that there were a number of amendments and new laws were also brought in. It is the duty of the lawyers to study them thoroughly.

A good knowledge in the new laws would also help reducing pendancy of cases in the courts, he said.

The Justice also advised the lawyers to represent their grievances to the appropriate authorities instead of boycotting the court proceedings. The agitations and boycotts would not effectively convey the grievances of the lawyers to the authorities concerned.

‘Follow seniors'

Chief Justice of Madras High Court H.L. Gokhale, presiding over the function, called upon the younger members of the bar to follow the footsteps of the senior advocates.

The younger generation should learn the best practices followed by the senior lawyers and that would help them emerge successful in the profession.

Madras High Court Judges K.N. Basha, M.M. Sundresh and K.B.K. Vasuki, Principal District Judge K. Jayasankaran remembered the achievements and the contributions made by the four senior advocates for the development of the bar in the district.

Judicial officers and advocates participated. Association President L.S. Murugesan, Secretary S. Guruswamy were present.
