The Department of Labour has said it carried out a special drive from May 14 to 16 as part of a crackdown on the sale of expired food products in shops and eateries.
The department said in a press release that action had been initiated against the owners of 421 shops and bakeries.
The department said it was carrying out a continuous drive to weed out such products.
It said 2,125 shops, bakeries and eateries were checked from January till this month and action had been taken against the owners of 758 establishments.
Action had also been taken against 503 traders for not re-calibrating their weighing machines within the stipulated time.
The department had also detected sale of various products above the maximum retail price at cinemas, railway stations and bus stands.
Appropriate action had been initiated against those found indulging in the malpractice.
