Playback singer Karthik enchanted the crowd with his pleasingly smooth rendering of Lyca Kovai Kings anthem that was launched at the Brookefields Mall here on Saturday.

The Lyca Group, which owns the Coimbatore franchise in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, was more than happy to launch the anthem in the city.

“I have been to Coimbatore on a few occasions and I was eager to pick only this city during the TNPL auction. I was not born or brought up here, but I love this place for the kind of respect they show for the people,” said Raju Mahalingam, COO of Lyca Group.

“Also, this morning I met a special person (Actor Rajinikanth) and he asked me where I was heading to. I told him to Kovai for the anthem launch and he said there can never be a better place than Kovai,” he added. And, the crowd roared in joy.

Karthik was thrilled to perform the anthem live. “This moment is something special for me. The song has so much energy. I could see that in the crowd as well. The whole process was so easy for me,” he said.

Film director A.L. Vijay, who had scripted the anthem, was happy as well. “I kept it simple and straight and it turned out be something special for me. I am sure the people of Coimbatore will like it and have a strong connect with the Kovai Kings team as well.”

“We are happy that they chose Coimbatore for the launch. We are also getting the SNR Grounds ready so that next year we will have all the [Coimbatore] matches here,” said D. Lakshminarayanaswamy, President, Coimbatore District Cricket Association.
