Unidentified persons chop off quarry worker Gunasekaran's two fingers

Unidentified persons gained entry into quarry worker Gunasekaran’s house in Kannampalayam, near Sulur, and chopped off two of his fingers.

The police said that the incident happened on Tuesday when the 37-year-old was fast asleep. His daughter was with him. The persons escaped soon thereafter.

Neighbours hearing his cries for help rushed to his house. The police have registered a case in this connection.

House burgled

Unidentified persons gained entry into the house of a computer engineer in Madukkarai Gandhi Nagar when his family was away in Bangalore and decamped with jewellery weighing three-and-half sovereigns. The police said that the burglars had broken open the front door to enter the house. The incident came to light when the family members returned on Monday morning. The police have registered a case in this connection.

Suicides

Forty-eight-year-old Ganesan, 48, of Singanallur Jothi Nagar committed suicide by handing at his house after his daughter married a man of her choice. The police said that the incident happened on Monday. A case has been registered in this connection.

Goldsmith Rajesh, 29, of Selvapuram committed suicide by hanging at his house on Monday. The Selvapuram police said that the incident happened when his wife of five years, Kalpana, was away. The police said that they were yet to ascertain the reason.

Lorry gutted

Fire that broke out at a saw mill in Zamin Uttukuli, near Pollachi, gutted a lorry.

The police said that the incident happened on Monday night when the lorry with saw dust was parked inside the mill.

The Pollachi police have registered a case in this connection.

Idols seized

Officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board on Tuesday seized Ganesh idols that were made of artificial materials using chemicals. The district Collector M. Karunagaran had issued clear instructions to officials to ensure that idols used for Ganesh Chathurthi were made only of clay and did not contain toxic paints. Sources said that following an information, the officials raided the workshop in Pollachi and seized 20 idols.
