The Southern Regional Centre (Mysore) of the Anthropological Survey of India (ASI) and a leading private chain of coffee outlets jointly conducted a small-scale job fair for tribal youth of The Nilgiris, in Udhagamandalam, on Monday. The job fair will continue on Tuesday also.
The company plans to recruit 20 tribal youth who have completed Class X or Plus Two as team members for their four outlets in Coonoor, Masinagudi and Udhagamandalam, for a monthly salary of Rs. 6,000, in addition to other Government benefits. It is learnt that the company also plans to recruit tribal youth for its outlets in Coimbatore.
Deputy Director of ASI Southern Regional Centre (Mysore) C.R. Sathyanarayanan told The Hindu that the company wanted to recruit tribal youth as part of their corporate social responsibility. “ASI is facilitating this recruitment as part of our extension programmes to benefit youth from tribal communities,” he said.
Mr. Sathyanarayanan said that there were many educated unemployed tribal youth who would like to work in The Nilgiris and other places. But they found it difficult to approach the right company for the job that would suit them. The Mysore-based coffee outlet chain approached the ASI for reaching out to tribal youth and the ASI officials contacted the heads of tribal groups about the opportunity.
Companies interested in recruiting tribal youth could contact the ASI Southern Regional Centre (Mysore) via email atcrsathya27@gmail.com, or over phone at 0821-2512666.
