Jewellery missing: case against former employees in Coimbatore

The Kattoor police registered a case against two former employees of a leading jewellery and silverware outlet on Cross Cut Road here on Saturday based on a complaint that they cheated the firm and forced it to incur a loss of Rs. 28.61 lakh.

Quoting the complaint, the police said that the outlet’s former manager and accountant Kapil Sekar and Kumar joined hands with Krishnamurthy of Siddhapudur, a supplier to their jewellery outlet, to cheat the firm in purchasing jewellery.

The complaint stated that 53.85 kg of silverware worth Rs. 21.55 lakh and 274.97 g of gold jewellery worth Rs. 7.06 lakh were missing.

A case was registered under Sections 408 (for criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Inspector V. Rajavel said that no arrests were made till the late hours of Sunday. He said that Kapil and Kumar worked at the outlet for about 10 years and resigned the job a few months ago.

He said that the firm claimed that in a recent audit they came to now that valuables worth several lakhs were missing.

Documents

The Inspector said that they asked the firm to produce documents supporting their claim.

Mr. Rajavel added that Kapil went abroad and that they were trying to inquire the two other persons against whom the firm pressed charges.
