Jewellery, laptops stolen from house near airport

Unidentified persons broke into a house at Rani Garden on Civil Aerodrome Road near Singanallur and took away 16.6 sovereigns gold ornaments and two laptops when its occupants were out of town.

The independent house belonged to V. Sowmiya, a 50-year-old man who works as a financial controller in a private college.

Police sources said that Sowmiya lost his wife a couple of months ago and lived in the house with his son and daughter.

The three had gone to Chennai to a relative’s place on May 23.

On returning on Saturday evening, they saw the house and almirahs open and the valuables stolen.

Case

The Singanallur Crime police have registered a case under Sections 454 (house-breaking to commit an offence), 457 (house-breaking by night to commit an offence), 461 (dishonestly breaking open receptacle contain) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and launched a search for the accused.

Finger print experts were pressed for service.

The police were also in the process of collecting CCTV footage recorded in the locality.

Two arrested

Two persons were arrested by the police on Saturday for consuming alcohol in front of a man’s house on SIHS Colony Road and for assaulting him with a knife when the latter questioned their act.

On a complaint lodged by the victim, S. Shibu (21), K. Ranganathan (24), of Ondipudur, and G. Krishnakumar (22), of SIHS Colony, were arrested and remanded.
