Jackal rescued
An adult jackal was rescued by Forest Department personnel from an abandoned mill at Sundarapuram here on Thursday. It was released in Solakarai Reserve Forest later that day. The department personnel said they would be taking efforts to trap its companion on Friday. Forest personnel in Madukkarai Range received information that two adult jackals were roaming inside the abandoned compound of Raj Narayana Mill at Sundarapuram.
On Thursday, a team of 11 forest personnel led by ranger M. Senthil Kumar strived hard for more than two hours to catch one of them. The ranger said that the animals were very active.
When one of the animals hid inside a small hole and could not move any further, the forest personnel patiently waited outside the hole for nearly 20 minutes with nets and gunny bags for the animal to come out and caught it safely.
The animal was in sound health and was released at Solakarai.
