Instances of land and property grabbing are on the rise in the State and the police are not able to take action against those involved, Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary D. Pandian alleged here on Wednesday.
This pointed to the collapse of administration in the State. The CPI would continue to oppose such acts that violated all norms of democracy, he told presspersons.
Mr. Pandian said the struggle of the Communists would not be restricted to the land-grabbing at Siruthavur. “We will oppose land grabbing anywhere in the State and keep up the struggle to reclaim the lands taken away from the poor,” he said.
“And, our struggle has nothing to do with political alliance,” he said, when asked how his party was an ally of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after having criticised it over the Siruthavur issue.
On the charges by former leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam Kumaran Pathmanathan that Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko had been against a ceasefire in Sri Lanka, Mr. Pandian said Mr. Pathmanathan was not a free man now.
His statements were tutored by those who controlled him.
Mr. Pandian also called for ensuring all labour rights to the employees of all multi-national companies in the State and the filling of nearly 3.5 lakh vacancies in various departments of the State Government.
Though Tamil Nadu was being called a model State in terms of economic development, people from backward districts went to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka for employment.
These districts must have employment-generating units related to agriculture and the marine sector.
Educated unemployed youth in these districts should be provided loans to set up these units.
The State conference of the All India Youth Federation to be held in Coimbatore from September 2 to 4 would discuss various problems confronting the people in the State.
CPI national general secretary A.B. Bardhan would address the inaugural of the meeting on September 2.
