An adult male Indian bison strayed into Ooty Town on early Wednesday morning, causing anxiety to local residents as well as authorities.

The adult Gaur, which is believed to be an animal that lives in the Fern Hill forests, had made its way into the town and strayed onto Garden Road, where the animal walked on the middle of the road, halting the traffic. However, as the roads were relatively free of traffic, police and forest staff said that they decided to let the animal stray into the forests.

After wandering the roads for around 30 minutes, the Gaur made its way to the lower Kodappamund area and into the forests nearby. Forest staff said that the Gaur could be the same one that was found to be frequently straying into town until a few months ago. Forest officials said that they would keep tabs on the animal to ensure that the animal did not pose a threat to locals' safety.
