An incomplete storm water drain project in Ward 16 of Tirupur Corporation is causing immense hardships to the residents.
Started by the Corporation administration as a project involving private participation, the construction of storm water drain on both sides of Hariharan Street in the Ward has been left at halfway stage about a year back. “Soon after digging the earth for laying the drain, the private player involved in the project withdrew leaving the residents in distress,” K. Raju, a resident of the Ward and a social activist, told The Hindu . “Toilet in my house, which has been on the edge of the road, came down and we have been forced to spent huge amounts to reconstruct it,” S. Sarojini, a resident of the street, said.
According to the residents, their repeated pleas asking the Corporation administration to expeditiously complete the project did not evoke proper response. When contacted, Ward 16 councillor M. Balasubramaniam said that efforts were being taken to complete the project and the work would commence shortly.
