Members of Aathi Thamizhar Katchi picketed the office of the Inspector General of Police (West Zone) here on Sunday, seeking action against those officers allegedly responsible for the death of the Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Vishnupriya who was found hanging at her quarters in Tiruchengode in Namakkal district on Friday.

Inspector General P. Shankar was not present at his office when the protest took place. The Race Course Police arrested 29 persons who picketed the IG’s office and took them to a marriage hall.

The protestors were led by the party’s joint secretary S. Ashokan and cultural wing president C. Kalapirar.

“There is no safety for Dalits and for honest officers who are properly investigating the death of a Dalit,” Mr. Ashokan said, referring to the probe that Vishnupriya was conducing in the murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj in Tiruchengode. Protestors claimed that Vishnupriya was pushed into a mental agony by higher ups at a time she was closing in on the caste Hindus who were involved in the murder of Gokulraj.

Meanwhile, Kongunadu Jananayaka Katchi issued a statement on Sunday asking parties not to politicise her death or to link it with the death of Gokulraj.

Party president G.K. Nagaraj stated that Gokulraj’s death was altered as murder after interference of Dalit political parties and organisations.

“There is no safety for Dalits and for honest officers ”
