HPF workers, family members arrested

A sizeable number of employees of the sick Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) and their family members were arrested on Thursday. The demonstration was part of their plan of action to agitate in different forms till the central government considers favourably their pleas.

The police rounded up 502 persons including 132 women who staged a road blockade agitation at Indunagar near here on Thursday.

Those arrested were employees of the sick Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) and their family members. The demonstration was part of their plan of action to agitate in different forms till the central government considers favourably their plea to revive the company and revise their wages.

Among those who extended moral support to the demonstrators were the AIADMK district secretary M. Selvaraj, CPI(M) district secretary R. Badhri the district president Janata Dal (S) Vishwanathan and the district president Congress Ganesan.

The demonstrators were led by the president of Save HPF Committee, M. Jayachandran.

He said that in keeping with their agitation plan, they would stage a demonstration in Chennai in front of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on February 8 and stage a dharna in Delhi in front of the Parliament on March 1.
