Home Guards, Coimbatore City, on Saturday took out an awareness rally to create awareness among road users on the need for using helmets.

According to a press release from T.K. Dhanashekar, Area Commander, the organisation took out the rally to commemorate the completion of 50 years of service of Home Guards members.

Around 250 two-wheeler riders and pillion riders took out the rally from the office of the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner .

Deputy Commissioner, Law and Order, Pravesh Kumar flagged off the rally.

The motorists went from the Police Commissionerate to the J.M. Bakery Junction, passed by GKNM Hospital, proceeded to Women’s Polytechnic and from there to the Police Recruit School Grounds, where the rally ended.The pillion riders carried placards with messages that highlighted the need for wearing helmets and how they played a critical role in protecting the riders’ lives in accidents. Thereafter, 57 Home Guards members donated blood at an event organised at the Purandaradasar Hall. And, the organisation also honoured its serving members and those who had retired after putting in more than 10 — 20 years’ service.
