Members of the Indhu Makkal Katchi-Tamilagam turned to the almighty to protect wild elephants.

The outfit organised a Ganapathy homam at Eachanari Vinayagar Temple on Sunday morning. This was followed by a discussion with religious leaders and environmentalists on what needed to be done to protect elephants, given the fact that several elephants had died in the district in the past couple of months, said the outfit's leader Arjun Sampath.

The outfit also passed resolutions that included urging the Forest Department to increase forest area, take steps to provide food and water to wild animals, erect solar powered fence and install cameras at points of human-animal conflict and improve measures to treat injured animals.

Agitation

Mr. Sampath said that if the Department failed to take remedial measures to bring down human-animal conflict in the near future, his organisation would not hesitate to launch an agitation.
