A ‘Heritage Food Training and Learning Centre’ was launched in AJK College of Arts and Science near Coimbatore on Wednesday.
According to a release, the first of its kind centre in the country, was inaugurated by Seetharaman Prasad, General Secretary, South India Culinary Association. He spoke to the students on the intake of a balanced meal and the significance of heritage food in maintaining health. Many restaurants had also started serving sugar-free and fat-free foods as part of the daily menu and in buffets.
According to Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, Secretary and Managing Trustee of AJK Educational Institutions, the centre would serve various purposes. “It will be used to train hotel management students of the college in preparing heritage dishes. Homemakers will be trained one Sunday a month. An annual national-level workshop will be held for students pursuing catering and hotel management in various colleges. Also, a certificate programme in association with some other organisation is in the pipeline,” he said.
Students displayed traditional food ingredients and cooking utensils as part of the inauguration.
