Nearly 200 people, including women, from Anna Nagar in Madukkarai, petitioned the District Collector urging him to initiate action against a man who was harassing the women in the area for the last 18 years.

The 51-year-old man, against whom various cases have been filed, used to visit his brother staying at Anna Nagar, often. The women said that he used to threaten men who tried to protect women and girls from him. They said that he always carried with him a knife or pieces of razor blades in his mouth. Attempts made by the villagers and the police to control him had gone in vain, they said. The villagers want the District Collector to ensure that he was sent away from Anna Nagar.

Encroachment

Students and parents of a school at Kurukalayampalayam in Annur were at the Collectorate here to complain about encroachment of land belonging to the school.

In a petition to the District Collector, representatives of Panchayat Union Elementary School and the village said that five cents of the school had been encroached.

The Collector should help them recover the land so that it could be used by the school.

The petition said that the school had 14.5 cents. At present it was using only 9.5 cents.

The rest of the land was encroached upon by a private party.

Transgenders

Nearly 30 transgenders from Thekkampatty Panchayat in Mettupalayam submitted a memorandum to the Collector seeking free houses under the ‘Pasumai Veedugal Thittam’ of the State Government.

They said they had received free ‘pattas’ last year for 1.5 cents each.
