Members of the Kunnathur village panchayat in Annur Panchayat Union were told about the 13-point order Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had issued to protect women.

A release said that the villagers were explained the features of the order and how they could contribute at the Gram Sabha meeting that was held on Saturday.

Collector M. Karunagaran participated in the meeting, held in the presence of panchayat president Ramalingam.

The release said that the villagers debated and sought details on water distribution, socio-economic and caste census, and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme among others.

The residents led by Collector took the voters’ day oath. A Revenue Department official explained the features of the social security scheme.

Similar meetings were held in all the 220-odd village panchayats in the district.
