P. Nivin Krishnan and R. Rahul from GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Perianaickenpalayam, emerged winners at the Coimbatore regional round of TCS IT Wiz.

They will represent Coimbatore in the national finals to be held on December 14.

They will contest for the title ‘Smart Tech Wizard 2013’.

The quiz was organised by Tata Consultancy Services.

The GKD team scored 70 points and kept the runner-up team from St. Judes Public School and Junior College, Kotagiri, well behind at 30 points. The winners walked away with an iPad each at the end of the quiz, which was held at Sri Krishna College here on Friday.

The team from St. Judes Public School and Junior College, Kotagiri, comprising Anushya Prabha T. and Zione Philomin, Antony P. won the second place and received won a computer tablet each.

The six finalists received an array of prizes ranging from gym bags, headphones, USB pen drive, Notebook speakers and T-shirts.

Ravi Viswanathan, president — Growth Markets and Head, Chennai Operations at TCS, gave away the prizes.

An interactive twitter contest was organised during the quiz to engage with the students in real time as part of the company’s social media outreach programme. The total number of tweets recorded during the regional finals stood at 477.

The regional rounds were held across 14 locations in the country.
