June 27, 2012 02:15 am | Updated 02:15 am IST - Namakkal:

The suicide attempt by a girl who failed in an examination turned out to be a fatal decision made in haste — just hours after she was declared died in hospital, her family received the news that she had cleared the paper after revaluation of the answer sheet.

D. Asha (19), a first year B.E. student of the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, was distraught after she failed in one of the papers in the second semester examination.

She applied for revaluation, but was still very upset over the result for more than a week, sources in the Tiruchengode Rural Police said.

Her parents said she tried to end her life by hanging in her house at Unjanai near Tiruchengode on June 21.

She was taken to hospital in Coimbatore, where she underwent treatment for four days but died shortly before midnight on Monday.

The result of the revaluation stating that she had passed in the paper reached her home on Tuesday morning.
