The Anti-Land Grab Cell has booked four persons on the charge of cheating a senior citizen.
According to the police, S. Aruchamy (72) of Kattampatty in Kinathukadavu, had 4.5 acres in the locality. An adjacent 13.5 acres was registered in the name of his two sons.
Thiruvel and Viswanathan had approached Aruchamy to buy his 4.5 acres. After settling on a deal for Rs. 22 lakh, the duo had paid an initial sum of Rs. 4.05 lakh with the rest to be paid after the land was registered over to them.
While the registration process was completed on November 20, 2011 at the Sub-Registrar office in Negamam, the duo allegedly refused to pay the remaining sum. Further, they also prepared forged documents for the 13.5 acres in the name of Aruchamy’s sons. The duo registered the 13.5 acres in the name of Viswanathan’s driver Subramaniam. This deal was facilitated by Kandasamy, a land broker.
Based on a complaint from Aruchamy, the District Crime Branch registered a case on Monday against Thiruvel, Viswanathan, Subramaniam and Kandasamy.
The case was transferred to the Anti-Land Grab Cell of the city police on Tuesday. Sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 420 (cheating) read with 120(b) (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code have been invoked.
