Singanallur Police on Monday arrested four persons including a woman for allegedly making an attempt to murder her husband in the late hours of Saturday, with the help of hired goons.

A. Thangaraj (30) of Anna Nagar near Peelamedu sustained injuries in an attack by two armed men, on the New Scheme Road near G.V. Residency at Uppilipalayam, on Saturday night. He is under treatment in a private hospital.

According to police sources, Thangaraj married Ramya (19) two years ago. Inquiry revealed that the woman was in love with her classmate A. Sameer (19), of Vadavalli, while pursuing diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Police said that the woman, who lost her parents, was under the care of her grandparents. After they came to know about her love affair, they forced her to discontinue studies and got her married to Thangaraj.

Ramya and Sameer continued to be in touch even after the marriage. Thangaraj and Ramya had frequent quarrels over the issue and she even demanded divorce from him. Following this, Sameer and Ramya plotted to kill Thangaraj. They sought the help of K. Vijaykumar alias Muniappan (34), from Seeranaickenpalayam, who demanded Rs. five lakh for murdering Thangaraj.

Deal

“They managed to finalise the deal at Rs. 2 lakh and gave him Rs. 1.6 lakh in cash and some jewellery,” Inspector P Maheswaran said.

On Saturday night, Ramya asked her husband to get food from an eatery at Uppilipalayam and informed this to Sameer.

On Vijaykumar’s direction Sameer and his friend S. Ramesh Kumar (24), of Veerakeralam, intercepted Thangaraj and attacked him.

Arrested

On Monday, the police arrested all the four persons and booked them under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Ramya was lodged at the borstal for women in Coimbatore and Sameer was lodged at the borstal at Pollachi, as they were aged below 21 years.

The other two were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
