Daan Utsav begins

The students of PSG College of Arts and Science began the week-long Daan Utsav celebration (formerly Joy of Giving Week), on Friday. The celebrations began with removal of nailed banners and billboards from trees. During the celebrations to be held till October 8, the students will provide life skill training for inmates of old age homes; gift bags made of used denims, give stationery items, used books and study materials to children in select government schools; give thanksgiving cards to traffic police personnel, and organise a charity breakfast for the college faculty. The money collected will be given to an orphanage.

T. Buvaneshwari, a student of a private school in Vadavalli, has won the first prize in state-level Thirukkural elocution competition conducted by Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam.

The literary wing of Shriram Group conducted the contest for school and college students across the State from July to September. Buvaneshwari received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, a shield and a trophy.

The managing director and chief executive officer of city-based Oviya MedSafe, J. Vijay Venkatraman, will be speaking at the British Parliament in the UK South India Business Meet 2015. The meeting is organised by the British South India Council of Commerce. According to a press release, Dr. Vijay will speak on ‘South India - An attractive and emerging global pharmaceutical hub’ on November 5.

The Tirupur Kerala Samajam brought down the curtain on their month-long Onam celebration on Friday. A feast was given to thousands of people. Cultural programmes including Kathakali, Pulikali were held.
