Fitness, health tips dominate Car-Free Sundays

Fitness and health, diet related tips dominated the stage at Car-Free Sundays on DB Road.

Car-Free Sundays is an initiative of The Hindu in association with Coimbatore Corporation and City Traffic Police aimed at making an 800-m stretch of the otherwise busy DB Road free from any forms of motorised traffic.

The initiative is to help fitness freaks and health conscious citizens make use of the stretch for yoga, work outs and for some games and fun too. Radio City is the radio partner and Mark1 events is the event manager.

The day began with fitness tips from Body Zeal and Phoenix Fitness School helping children and senior citizens shake their legs and sweat it out.

Kids had a gala time with shuttle badminton, tug of war, cricket, bicycles, scooty and hula hoop brought by Decathlon at the sports zone.

Dr. Ku. Sivaraman spoke on the need to shun junk foods and take in conventional foods such as cereals and millets. He called upon the audience to spend one hour a day for Nalamthaana, a lecture series for a week beginning Sunday at Kikkani school auditorium organised by Sri Krishna Sweets and Arogya, a Siddha hospital.

The launch of logo and posters for the upcoming contest ‘Isaigar’ also marked the occasion. The event is organised by The Hindu and Nanneri Kazhagam. The logo was released by Dr. Ku. Sivaraman, P. Jeyachandran, Iakako N. Subramanian, M. Padmanabhan (secretary, president and vice-president of Nanneri Kazhagam respectively) along with S. Natarajan, honorary secretary of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Later, an introduction on ‘Veruli’, a movie completely done by a Coimbatore team to reflect their social responsibility, was held. Director P.Amudhavanan, Editor Gavaskarraju, Director of Photography R.Muruganandh, choreographer Vivaki, Assistant Director G.Anand Babu besides artistes Veruli Hari, Surya, Kasi and Vignesh participated.
