Employees of closed Tasmac outlets in Erode submitted a petition to the district administration on Monday, pleading for alternative jobs and continuity in service.

As many as 160 IMFL shops in the vicinity of National and State Highways had to be closed in the district in the wake of court orders and the workers in these outlets have been left jobless due to the overwhelming public opposition to relocation of shops to residential areas. There are now only 82 outlets functioning in the district.

Meanwhile, public continued to oppose shifting of shops to residential parts tooth and nail.

Agitated residents of Mayilambadi complained that Tasmac authorities were attempting to open again a shop that was closed on Chief Minister’s orders. The Mayilambadi panchayat had also adopted a resolution for removal of the outlet, the petitioners said demanding action against the Tasmc officials.

There was also stiff opposition from locals of N.Muniappanpalayam village along Anthiyur-Athani road to the attempt made to open a new outlet.
