Dowry harassment case registered

A case of criminal intimidation has been filed against Kaja Hussain and three others for harassing his wife and demanding dowry.

According to the police, he had married a woman from Kuniamuthur in 1997. Since then he had been demanding Rs. 5 lakh in cash and jewellery from her.

A case under Sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust), 498 (A) (Husband or relative of husband subjecting wife to cruelty) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation). The case has been transferred to the All Women Police Station (West) and a search is on to arrest the four accused, who are absconding

Nabbed

Swift action by the City Police resulted in catching a burglar within half-an-hour of him committing a robbery.

According to the police sources, a 32-year-old youth had knocked on the front door of a house where a 90-year-old person was living with wife, aged 85, and asked for someone. Afterwards, he sneaked inside through the backdoor and brandished a knife. He snatched a gold chain weighing eight sovereigns from the wife and injured the husband.

After being alerted, personnel from the R.S. Puram (B2) police station conducted a search and nabbed the youth and recovered the gold chain. City Police Commissioner A.K. Vishwanathan lauded the police personnel and announced a reward.

Student missing

A 17-year-old student who went to see his Plus Two results on Thursday has been reported missing. According to the police, the boy, a resident of Chinnasamy Road, has not returned home.

Found dead

A 60-year-old person was killed on the late hours of Friday. According to the police, Samy Pillai of Edayarpalayam was found dead with a knife injury at around 9 p.m. on Friday. Police suspect it may be due to Samy Pillai owing some dues on a house he recently purchased.

Suicides

A total of eight suicides have recorded in one day in the rural areas of Coimbatore district.

According to the police, family problems were behind most of the suicides.

Jewellery stolen

Three-and-a-half sovereigns of gold jewellery worth Rs. 75,000 was stolen from a locked house at New Weavers Colony at Edayarpalaya, on May 3.

According to the police, the couple living in the house found that front door lock was broken. The Thudiyalur Police registered a case on Friday and are investigating.
