District Collector and District Environmental Engineer have appealed to the people to desist from setting fire to old things on Sunday as part of the bhogi festival.
In a release, the officials said that it was customary to burn old things with a belief that new things would usher into one’s life.
Normally, people used to set fire to old mats, clothes, broom sticks and agricultural waste. But, of late people have started setting fire to things such as tyre, rubber, plastic and artificial things which result in air pollution.
Causing such air pollution was a punishable offence. Police are also being instructed to file cases against those indulging in such violations.
