Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Councillors led by A. Nandhakumar walked out of the Coimbatore Corporation’s urgent council meeting on Monday stating that the Chief Minister’s Rs. 2,000-crore-plus package to the city was nothing but old wine in new bottle as many of the schemes were in the pipeline for the last few years.
They said that the State Government had not implemented the schemes announced in the past. In the last three years, the city had not seen any major development.
The AIADMK Councillors thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning the development package, which they said would help increase the phase of city’s development.
The council then passed resolutions to provide housing for conservancy workers in Vellakinaru and Thudiyalur, cancel the contracts given to KAS Constructions, Coimbatore, for the tardy progress it made in constructing compound and staff quarters at the Velliangadu water treatment plant, construct a compound wall at the Vellalore dump yard and construct a retaining wall along River Noyyal bank in South Zone.
The Corporation Council passed a resolution to float tenders to invite bids from advertisement agencies to maintain traffic signals in the city in association with the Coimbatore City Traffic Police.
