DMK cadre in Pollachi town staging a protest against Tamil Nadu Assembly Deputy Speaker V. Jayaraman on Monday.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) cadre in Pollachi protested against Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal by sending him a parcel containing saree, bangles and make-up items.

They questioned the Speaker’s role during last Saturday’s vote of confidence in the Assembly and also protested against his deputy and local MLA V. Jayaraman.

Partisan manner

DMK’s Pollachi town secretary S. Selvaraj said that the Speaker acted in a partisan manner when he was expected to be non-partisan.

By asking Assembly Marshall to remove the DMK MLAs from the Assembly, he had clearly favoured the AIADMK, whose Chief Minister sought a vote of confidence.

The cadre had also dressed up a worker in saree with Mr. Jayaraman’s mask and attempted to march towards the town bus stand.

But the Pollachi Town Police prevented them from doing so and took them into custody.

Cadre arrested

The Coimbatore Rural Police sources said that they had removed nearly 300 members when they attempted to march towards the bus stand.

Of those, they had arrested and sent to remand 33 members.
