DMDK councillors protest

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The two Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam councillors in the Mettupalayam Municipality on Friday began an indefinite protest over the auctioning of shops in the bus stand there. Councillor ‘Malli’ P. Subramaniam said that their protest was against those councillors who stymied the auctioning of shops in the bus stand that would fetch a far higher rent than what was being paid now.

The 200-plus shops in the bus stand were auctioned many years ago and the rent the civic body earned was far less than the potential. The DMDK wanted the municipal administration to go ahead and increase the rent to implement many schemes in the town.
