Even as the police remained fully geared to prevent incidents of moral policing on Valentine’s Day, there were demonstrations in support of inter-caste marriages.
On Wednesday, two outfits terming Valentine’s Day as western culture burnt the greeting cards in the city.
But on Thursday, activists of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) staged a demonstration in front of Red Cross Society on Huzur Road wherein they organised a cake cutting ceremony.
Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organised a function to felicitate those who had entered into inter-caste wedlock.
At Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) demonstration, three inter-caste marriages were solemnised. Its general secretary K. Ramakrishnan told reporters that his party had so far conducted 185 inter-caste marriages.
Both DVK and TPDK demanded reservation for the children of inter-caste marriage couples.
Police personnel were posted at a number of places in the city.
