The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Thursday organised a demonstration in protest against the arrest Syed Abuthahir, a resident of K.K Nagar here, in connection with the murder of Hindu Munnani leader C. Sasikumar.
The police arrested 260 members of the SDPI, including 60 women, who staged the protest near South Taluk Office.
They raised slogans against CB-CID special investigation division. They said that officers kept Abuthahir in illegal custody for over 24 hours. The SDPI said that Muslims were being falsely implicated in several cases, only to be acquitted by courts.

The SDPI resorted to protests here on Thursday alleging that Syed Abuthahir, a resident of Coimbatore, was framed as an accused in the Sasikumar murder case.
He has been subjected to custodial torture, they said adding that action should be taken against police officials who kept Abutahir in illegal custody and tortured him.
He was arrested to satisfy some Hindu outfits, said SDPI spokesperson S.S. Abu Tahir.
