Two killed in road accident
A 48-year-old man who was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College of head injuries, died on Tuesday.
Police said Christudas (48) of Teachers Colony, Mettupalayam was working as a ministerial staff at the City Commissioner’s Office. On Sunday, when he was riding his two-wheeler on Karamadai Road, a van knocked him down and he was admitted to CMCH. He died on Tuesday morning. Police are on look out for the van driver Gunasekaran. City Police Commissioner Amaresh Pujari placed wreath and paid last respects.
In another incident, one person died on the spot when the car in which they were travelling had a head-on-collision with a lorry, near Kovilpalayam on the city outskirts. In the impact, K. Balakrishnan (30) of Tiruvannamalai died on the spot, while the other driver sustained serious injury and was admitted to CMCH.
Fake passport, one held
Immigration officials at the Coimbatore Airport detained a passenger who travelled from Sharjah on a fake passport and arrived at Coimbatore on Monday morning.
Saleema (34) of Vellore was found travelling with a passport with a false address. On an enquiry by the immigration authorities, she accepted the same. Airport officials handed her over to the Peelamedu police station. A case has been registered under the Indian Passports Act.
